Hi Shawn. I recently read your entry from back in 2003, about humans being inherently selfish. I agree with your standpoint, but in my opinion, selfishness is a good thing. It promotes compromise and motivates people to do good things. Some selfishness is bad, that’s true enough. Criminal acts are a one sided selfishness, not intended to satisfy others needs or desires, but most selfishness is actually helpful. By doing something for someone else, one helps the other achieve their goal of whatever they wanted, and the helper achieves happiness from being able to help, or doing something religiously good, or any other motive to make them do something. The Human Race depends on selfishness to survive. You could say that selfishness is a survival instinct. By the way, I really like your blog, you have a lot of interesting things to say :)

Suicide is selfish too, because it is one person trying to relieve himself/herself of emotional pain, without thinking of the feelings of those close to them.
